11 Convocation at CIIT Abbottabad – A seat of excellence
‘COMSATS Institute of Information Technology is one of the
top seven research institutions with departments undertaking
research of national and international caliber, according to the
recent 2006 HEC research assessment exercise’, said Dr. S.
M. Junaid Zaidi, Rector COMSATS while addressing the 11th
convocation held at CIIT Abbottabad campus. He further mentioned
that “CIIT firmly believes that good education is the best
defense against the ravages of globalization that has radically
redesigned the requirements of education”.
Presenting the annual report of CIIT Abbotabad, director, Haroon
Rasheed said “In July 2007, a development project worth Rs.
470 million has been approved which will provide 4 buildings, 7
engineering labs, 2 environment science labs, 5 computer science
lab, equipment and books. Master plan of the campus is also
completed.”
Academics being the top priority for the campus, the director
reported that the Campus has also established research
collaboration with 10 international universities (Four from UK,
two from USA, one each from Norway, Italy, Germany & Czech
Republic). Total 63 faculty members are perusing MS or PhD
programs in various universities all over the world under
scholarship programs.
The ceremony held on 7 September 2007 at Abbottabad Campus when
555 students were awarded degrees in Masters of Sciences
(MS) and Bachelors of Sciences degrees in Engineering, Computer
Sciences and Business Administration. This includes 34 post
graduates who have completed their MS qualification. The
undergraduates from the 2002 session and graduates from 2004
session till date attended the event. 63 students were awarded
gold, silver and bronze medals for outstanding performance in
academics. A large number of guests, dignitaries, parents and
faculty members were present for the occasion.
